The initial days of physical distancing did not faze me. As a college professor who has spent the last eight-and-a-half years teaching online courses for a mostly virtual university, I assumed not much would change for me and my colleagues. It was business as usual, as a couple of my university’s fellow faculty said. Our role, it seemed, was to help educators at other institutions take their teaching fully online, and in the process, help them realize the researched merits of online education as a great equalizer — flexible enough to accommodate the needs of any student or educator, because it is not bound by location, schedule, or even learning style.
