Next Friday, January 25, 2019, from 6pm to 7:30pm, The Public Defender’s office is going to be hosting a community meeting with an organization out of San Jose called SV De-Bug. This organization has developed a model of participatory defense. In this model, grassroots community hubs work with public defenders. This model empowers family members and community partners of the criminally accused to best illustrate their stories, counter prosecution narratives, prepare creative defenses, and effectuate optimal outcomes.
The De-Bug team is coming to our office to teach us more about the participatory defense model and the use of specific techniques and storytelling tools that increase our collaboration with the family and community of our clients. Our office would like to invite local community organizations to learn and discuss this defense model.
(SV De-Bug is based in San Jose, and this model is now nationwide, very powerful and innovative. More information is available at http://siliconvalleydebug.org, and there is also an informative profile of CEO Raj Jayadev, who was recently recognized by the MacArthur Foundation as a 2018 Fellow, at http://macfound.org.)
We plan to meet at the Public Defender’s Office at 312 E. Cook Street (corner of Miller), Friday, January 25, from 6pm to 7:30pm.
Please note, the court complex is now gated. If anyone is interested in participating, please respond directly to me (lea) and I will send you details on how to access the office. Thank you!
